Blair and Eric

To say that shooting a wedding at the Greenbrier Resort in West Virginia is a photographer’s dream is not an understatement; it’s just wrong. It would have been a dream if we had had all the time in the world to spend photographing Blair and Eric and their wedding party. Trying to capture such a beautiful couple in such a beautiful setting with so little time is just not fair. It’s torture!  I want my cake and want to eat it, too!

The night before the wedding I had my typical wedding night jitters, but Kathy, of Kathy Blanchard Photography, and I came up with a master plan after scouting the place out, which was a relief. I think that feeling of anxiety is what I love and hate most about being a wedding photographer. The fact that every wedding is different and unpredictable is thrilling, and I would be bored to tears if every wedding were exactly the same and went exactly as planned, but at the same time, the “not knowing” is just so nerve wracking! You just have to give every second of wedding day 110% of your best effort. Then the next day you feel great because you know you gave it your all and you can stop losing sleep over it.

Blair and Eric’s wedding was such a fabulous event and experience. The fact that they didn’t take themselves or their wedding too seriously in such a formal setting gave their wedding even more flair. (As if adding flair to the Greenbrier is even possible!) Thanks so much to Blair & Eric for choosing me to capture it, and thanks to Kathy for getting me through it, and creating so many of these beautiful images!

Safie and Julian

My good friend and colleague Renee Michele referred  Safie and Julian to me as she was unavailable on their wedding day. What a wonderful surprise ~ a sweet courthouse wedding on a Wednesday afternoon! As luck would have it, not only did I get the wedding, but the forecasted freezing rain and wind gave way to a balmy winter day with the sun breaking through dramatic clouds. We were able to have a little adventure around DC without rainboots or umbrellas. I loved everything about this wedding ~ having all new spaces to shoot in with no “weddingy” expectations was a fresh and exciting treat for my first wedding of the year. The fountain shots in Dupont Circle (where they met) are definitely my favorite, but I also love my first ‘B&G ride the Metro’ images ever, and our very untraditional “cake cut” at Hello Cupcake!

Since we had never met, I had no idea what Safie and Julian looked like. When I arrived at the DC Courthouse I spotted this beautiful woman going through security and hoped she was my bride!

The “chapel” at the DC Courthouse was all decked out for Valentine’s Day. We snuck in early to have some fun!

These images remind me of the scenes in the piazzas of Florence that I walked through every day as an art student. If only I had a telephoto lens back then!

No wedding is complete without a sweet treat! Thanks to Hello Cupcake for the beautiful backdrop for these images.

Eneida and Jamus

Eneida and Jamus ~ our last but not least fabulous wedding of 2010! We never did meet before their wedding day since our appointment at my studio was cancelled due to the blizzard (last year at this time) so we ended up “meeting” via Skype as the snow piled up outside. What a wonderful surprise it was to meet this sweet, young couple on their wedding day and see their plans come to fruition. Just love their style and their priorities ~ food, family and fun! We wish them all the best for a lifetime of happiness together!

Strong Mansion is such a fun venue to photograph; especially in the fall.

Brrrrr! A cold, hard wind was a blowin’. The next day was about ten degrees warmer. Darn! But we did luck out with the foliage and the gorgeous evening light.

Eneida and Jamus’ ceremony was filled with unique heartfelt elements. They wrote their own music and vows, and bound their love story in a book for their guests to enjoy!

Sweet Thoughts for Valentine’s Day

Last week I was pleasantly surprised by an inquiry from one of our grooms from 2009, Joe. He wanted to surprise his bride with some large prints for Valentine’s Day.  He went through all of their wedding images and picked out the ones he thought would be her favorites, and then let me do my thing.

Joe even went through the house and described all of the colors in their walls & decor so I would be sure the borders would look good in their home. And all this two weeks in advance of the holiday! Rebecca is just going to blown away, and so glad she married him. What a catch!

The Story is Told

Designing albums is definitely one of the most fun parts of wedding photography. After hours of agonizing editing on both my part and then the B&G who have to choose 100 favorites out of 600-800 images, then more hours of retouching to perfect every image, the fun begins! It is so exciting to see how their story will finally be told. Here it is, Alden and Ethan’s fabulous wedding album, which at the risk of sounding immodest, I consider a masterpiece!
